New year, new me!? Well not exactly.
I decided to start a Ketogenic lifestyle back in October and wanted to share what I have learned thus far. This is a very basic overview of what keto is and some tips that may help you on your journey.
First of all, what is it?

Ok, so what can I eat on a Keto diet?
Well, a lot! Here is a quick overview from Keto Diet Blog of some of the food you can eat while staying in ketosis and what you should avoid:
The hardest part for me was not having sweets. However, a quick search on Pinterest and I was able to find a ton of Keto friendly snacks and desserts. Here are a few of my favs:

#1. Join Facebook groups for support!
One of the best things I have done. It allows me to ask questions, see others people progress which helps keep me motivated, people share tips and recipes, and people even share their struggles so you know you are not alone on this journey. I joined some local Canadian Keto pages on Facebook. Most of the ones I have come across are closed groups but as long as you are nice you should have no problem getting accepted to the group. #3. Talk about it!
Talk about it to anyone that will listen. If someone asks you what you are eating or if you lost weight, etc that is the perfect time! I asked for recommendations on Facebook and Instagram on Keto and was overwhelmed with people that I knew what keto was and people that have tried and/or wanted to try it. Not only will this help keep you motivated but you may even recruit someone to join you on this journey which can help keep you accountable.
#4. Plan and meal prep!
Ok, so my life is crazy busy with two jobs, three kids, a dog, husband, going to school part-time and volunteering twice a week. If I do not meal prep I will just come home and shove anything I can find in my mouth! Thank goodness I have an amazing spouse that helps motivate me to prepare my meals the night before. I have a friend that does all her meals for the week on Sundays, which is amazing and I keep telling myself that one day I will do that too.
The crockpot is your friend! Use it!
Have Keto snacks handy at all times, whether it is nuts, cheese slices or fat bombs, make it easy to make the right choice.
If you are going to a restaurant, look at their menu before going or ask the wait staff for low carb options.
#5. Don’t stress if you fall off the wagon!
Easier said than done I know. It may sound cliché but take it one day at a time and plan ahead which can make it easier in the long run. Talk about why you failed with someone on the journey with you, or share in one of those Facebook groups because you will not be the only one struggling. I completely fell off the wagon during the holidays and am starting fresh back into keto this week. For me, the first week was the hardest but it does get easier and the results are well worth it.
Drum roll, please………..
During the first 60 days of my keto lifestyle, I have successfully lost 13 lbs. I should also let you know that I have not been exercising on a regular basis, I have PCOS, and try to do intermittent fasting twice a week, so my results will be different than yours. As an example, my spouse that is also keto and works out a minimum of 4-6 days a week has lost about 30 lbs. Huge difference! I am happy with my results and look forward to losing more weight.
The other thing that I have really noticed is that my skin is clearer and I have more energy, which makes me really happy.
So to summarize, I am happy with my results thus far and plan on being a bit more strict with my calorie intake to help speed up my weight loss. I have learned a lot and will continue to surf the web for more recipes and resources!
